Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform with over 50 million users worldwide. I worked closely with Kahoot!’s founders to transform and improve the visual impact of the brand for comms, campaigns, and UI.
...and before anyone asks - I wasn’t allowed to touch the logo.
I started to look at phrases and slogans, already in use by the team on social media. But I also wanted to consider the experience of playing Kahoot!, which revolves heavily around a set of simple shapes.
When manipulated and combined, shapes can lend themselves to a number of graphic treatments. They can also embody a great deal about play and learning, so they were perfect to adapt and implement as literal building blocks for Kahoot!’s visual language.
Through illustration, animation, and typography, I explored how shapes could be utilised and flexed across Kahoot!’s various touch-points — website, app UI, merchandise, campaigns — all with an emphasis on the fun, obscurity, and general awesomeness that comes with playing.
The exploration was refined and implemented into product updates, team swag, and live campaigns, including Kahoot!’s appearance at the ISTE* conference in Philadelphia.
